MADRONA HOUSE | SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

Back to Homes On Land

This traditional home remodel created an new environment for this once overcrowded house. A single bathroom served four small bedrooms, and the clients expressed a desire to make major changes. We created a generous master suite by expanding the floor onto the existing deck. The exterior maintains the traditional materials and symmetrical balance, while the new interior work is contemporary, light and refined. The arrangement creates a large master bedroom with 11’ ceilings and corner window overlooking the lake, a walk-in closet with skylight, and an extra long soaking tub in the master bath with a view of Mt. Rainier- a perfect spot to soak with a glass of wine at the end of a stressful day.

Hidden recesses in the shower and bathtub walls keep the soaps and sponges out of view, while glass display shelves feature special personal items. The sinks bulge forward from a shallow base cabinet, at once expanding the floor area and creating a unique counter profile. The material palate includes heated bluestone floors, sandstone countertop, glass block, and maple cabinets.
