MUSEUM OF HISTORY & INDUSTRY | SEATTLE, WASHINGTON1

Back to Prior Work

The Museum of History and Industry took four floors of space in the 2000 expansion of the Washington State Convention Center as a way to expand its offering to the public in a more prominent location than its current home permits.

Bruce Donnally was the Principal in Charge of the project for LMN Architects, and oversaw both the master planning and initial design phases for the museum. The master planning effort included extensive analysis of the museum, its needs and future direction, as well as visits to over twenty other museums around the country. The effort established a strong foundation for the design decisions that followed. The plan will accommodate nearly 40,000 SF of galleries, on-site exhibit prep shop, collections storage, and multiple public facilities for school groups and special events. Preparations were also made for the movement of very large artifacts within the space.

While the museum pursues its fund raising efforts, the space has been temporarily sub-leased to the downtown branch of the Seattle Public Library while their own new facility is constructed.
